Study on Sludge Start-up of SH-A Process for Mature Landfill Leachate Treatment

The research was on the sludge start-up of SH-A process for mature landfill leachate treatment, SH-A is the combined SHARON (Single Reactor High Activity Ammonia Removal Over Nitrite) ANAMMOX(Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation). The seed sludge was from Yangeryu Landfill of Anshan, Liaoning province of China. The landfill leachate was used to cultivate the sludge. The results showed that the start-up of the first aerobic reactor where short-cut nitrification occurs could be completed in 50 days by gradually increasing load of pollutants and controlling pH, temperature, hydraulic retention time (HRT), and other factors, that the start-up of the Anammox reactor where anaerobic ammonia oxidation occurs could be completed in 70 days on the basis of anaerobic microorganism was cultivated, and that the start-up of the second aerobic reactor where the nitrification occurs could be completed in 60 days. The optimal conditions for the nitrous nitrification were obtained as following: temperature about 30 , pH value from 8.0 to 8.5, °C hydraulic residence time from 11 to 13h. While the optimal conditions of anaerobic ammonium oxidation bioreactor were achieved as following: temperature about 35 , pH value from 8.0 to 8.5, hydraulic residence °C time from 35 to 40h. These reaction conditions could provide reference for practical cases.
